Was uns am Herzen liegt
The things close to our heart

beo shows dedication: not only on a technological level and on specialist committees, but we are also committed to people and ideas.

Opening access to professional technology: openTMS

beo plays an active role in the development of the open-source translation software, openTMS, as a co-initiator of the working group FOLT (Forum Open Language Tools), as a member of the Steering Group and of various working groups concerned with openTMS, as well as through sponsoring of the development and public relations work.

Our collaboration on specialist committees

beo employees are involved at tekom, Transforum and the German Terminology Day (DTT) and also cooperate with various professional associations.

Shaping the future

We have training and research cooperations with universities that teach translation and interpreting studies, such as the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (FH), the Germersheim Faculty of Applied Language and Cultural Studies (FASK), the University of Heidelberg and the Heidelberg Seminar for Translation and Interpreting (SUED). This cooperation resulted, as an example, in the dissertations 'Possibilities and boundaries of computer-aided quality assurance in the translation sector' by Elena Navarro and 'Computer-aided extraction of terms from technical texts in Italian' by Vanessa-Barbara Wanhoff.

In cooperation with the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW), we offer the possibility of a degree course with integrated work experience: In cooperation with the Stuttgart site of the DHBW, the beo office in Stuttgart offers places for the 'Industry and service management' degree course and also for the 'Applied information technology' course at the Horb campus of the Stuttgart site.
We have also worked together with the DHBW on joint projects in relation to software tools for supporting translation work.

In the best of company

We could also claim that our social commitment helps our immediate neighbourhood: We have allocated the cleaning of our beo office in Stuttgart to the Lebenshilfe Stuttgart e.V. organisation, which is located virtually opposite. This charitable organisation protects the interests of mentally challenged people and gives them work.

Our staff also enjoy using the Lebenshilfe café.

beo also supports the Gute Fee citizens' campaign in Reutlingen, which sets up help points for children, where they can find help if they have a problem, such as if they have lost their wallet, they need to phone home or they simply need to go to the toilet.
